Establishment of Rehabilitation Centers for Paralyzed and Disabled

Lahore: Minister of Primary and Secondary Health Care Dr. Jamal Nasir has said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, special rehabilitation centers (paraplegic centers) are being established in five cities for paralyzed and disabled people.

This project of Special Rehabilitation Centers for Paralyzed and Handicapped Persons aims to protect patients who are at risk of permanent disability in any part of the body including tongue, hand, arm, leg and foot. One central rehabilitation center and four satellites in Punjab. Centers will be established. The main rehabilitation center will be established at the District Headquarters Hospital, Multan, which will consist of 30 beds and will be equipped with the latest facilities including spinal surgery. Four satellite rehabilitation centers will be established in Lahore, Faisalabad, Taunsa and Wah Cantt, Rawalpindi district will go.

The first paraplegic center with 20 beds will be inaugurated in Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sumanabad Lahore under special rehabilitation centers for paralyzed and disabled persons. Other rehabilitation centers are Nusrat Fateh Ali Hospital Faisalabad, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Taunsa and Wah Cantt. will be established in the General Hospital. Speech therapy facility for patients will also be provided at rehabilitation centers.

Counseling will also be done to the persons under treatment in the special rehabilitation centers for the paralyzed and disabled to make them useful citizens of the society. The families of such persons will also be trained to take care of them.

Prosthetic limb workshop will also be set up for paraplegic and disabled persons. Punjab cabinet has taken a principled decision to outsource the prosthetic limb workshop. Patients at risk of partial failure to be permanently disabled. One central rehabilitation center and four satellite centers will be established in Punjab. The Central Rehabilitation Center will be established at the District Headquarters Hospital, Multan, which will have 30 beds and will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including spinal surgery.
