The controversial movie ‘The Kerala Story’ is set for release today in India.

The controversial movie is releasing after multiple pleas for the stay on its release were turned down by the Supreme Court. Whereas the Indian political party BJP expressed how many political parties are not supporting freedom of expression, other parties believed the film aims to create communal hatred.

Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Sudipto Sen’s ‘The Kerala Story’, based on the theme of religious conversion, reportedly claimed 32,000 women were converted to Islam and many were taken to IS-ruled Syria.

The movie received an ‘A’ certificate from the Censor Board. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has also deleted 10 scenes, according to reports.

The Kerala Story stars Adah Sharma in the lead, playing the converted Muslim woman Fathima Ba, based on a Hindu nurse, who had suffered the same fate. The film also stars Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani as the three other women with Fathima.
