Cabinet body reviews long march security

A meeting of the Punjab Cabinet Standing Committee on Law and Order (SCCLO) was held today at the Civil Secretariat under chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Cooperatives and Environmental Protection Muhammad Basharat Raja.

Security arrangements for ongoing long march of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf were reviewed in the meeting.

Concerned commissioners and RPOs gave briefing on the arrangements. Chief Secretary Punjab Abdullah Khan Sumbal, Acting Inspector General Punjab Police, ACS (Home) and other officers also participated. Chairman Committee Muhammad Basharat Raja said that on the instructions of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the workers have ended the sits-ins and cleared roads leading to the motorways. He directed that the use of bullet-proof rostrum should be ensured on the container.

“In the next phase, all arrangements should be made for the long march in Jhelum and Mandi Bahauddin”, he directed.The cabinet committee was apprised that 4100 police personnel, snipers have been deployed in Gujarat while traffic duty has also been assigned. Provincial Minister Raja Basharat said: “The leadership of PTI does not make provocative speeches during the long march, so it is necessary that the leaders of other political parties should also avoid it.” He said that there should be no other unnecessary political activities during the long march. It was decided in SCCLO meeting that shops containing inflammable materials will be shut down in the route of long march.

Commissioner Faisalabad Shahid Niaz also told the meeting about the security plan in his division.
