KARACHI: The funeral prayers of former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf were offered at Malir Cantonment’s Polo Ground in Karachi on Tuesday, after which he was laid to rest at an army cemetery.

The funeral was attended by senior officials amongst others. The former military ruler passed away at 79 on Sunday in Dubai.

Multiple media reports suggest former army chiefs Qamar Javed Bajwa, Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Aslam Beg attended the funeral. Besides them, politicians including MQM-P leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi, Dr Farooq Sattar, PSP’s Mustafa Kamal, PML-N leader Amir Muqam, PTI leader and former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, former federal information minister Javed Jabbar, former FBR chairman Shabbir Zaidi and Musharraf’s son Bilal were also in attendance.

Earlier, Musharraf’s mortal remains were repatriated to Pakistan from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) via a special jet last night.

Before being airlifted to Karachi, the body was given a ghusl (ritual washing and shrouding of the deceased ahead of burial) in Sonapur, Dubai, where he breathed his last.

The widow of the ex-army chief and their children also reached Pakistan with the body to offer the final rites of the deceased.
