ISLAMABAD – A district court in the country’s federal capital remanded Amjad Shoaib, a former lieutenant general in Pakistan Army, in police custody for three days in a case related to his ‘controversial statements’ during a recent talk show.

During today’s proceedings, the prosecutor levelled accusations on the former military man for spreading hatred among different groups through his comments on mainstream media and urged court for his physical remand.

The defense counsel, however, opposed the physical remand and after a few arguments, and argued that his speech has not violated any law. He also maintained that Lt Gen (r) Amjad Shoaib is a war veteran who took part in the 1965 and 1971 wars.

After the arguments, the court granted Amjad Shoaib in police custody for 3 days.
