Emergency measures should be taken for forest mngt, ecosystem restoration and upgradation: Rizwan Mahboob

A high-level meeting was held at the Forest Complex under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Task Force on Forests and Wildlife Syed Rizwan Mehboob.

Department of Environment, WWF, P&D, officers from Fisheries, Wildlife and Forest department, wildlife and climate change experts participated in the meeting along with Secretary Forest Mudassar Waheed Malik.

In the meeting, the issues of restoration and upgradation of the ecosystem and improvement of forest management were discussed, while suggestions were also exchanged on possible measures in the context of climate change.

In the meeting, suggestions were also exchanged regarding the use of modern technology regarding ecosystem, improvement of forest management, promotion of carbon management. The meeting also discussed the time frame of the third phase of plantation drive and decided to start plantation in mid-October and to involve PHA and educational institutions in the drive.

Chairman CM Task Force Syed Rizwan Mehboob directed to give priority to the local plants of each area and emphasized the need to create awareness among people regarding combating smog by planting local plants.

He called the steps necessary for the stabilization of biodiversity and also directed a 5-year plan for climate change and improvement of forest management In the meeting, while agreeing on active measures for the protection of the ecosystem, and ensuring the use of modern technology, instructions were also given to prepare emergency measures and action plans for the protection of the rare fish of Punjab, Great Indian Bustard and Blind Indus Dolphin.
