In the Provincial Capital Lahore, a Smog Clean Tower is being installed in Mehmood Booti area for controlling smog issue.
The tower, installed by Punjab Environmental Protection Department and NUST, will be fully functional from 21st of this month. The site of installation has been selected due to the high level of pollution. The tower, having capability of cleansing poisonous particles present in the air, will play an important role to reduce the pollution level in the city.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has termed it a revolutionary step. She said that the use of modern technology is the need of the hour to control the serious smog issue. She said that this tower will prove a model for Lahore and Pakistan.
Marriyum said that the government is taking all possible measures to tackle pollution challenges. Meanwhile, Punjab Environmental Protection Department continues wide spread actions against those involved in spreading pollution.
Six non-Zigzag brick kilns in Bhakkar while one each in Gujrat, Khanewal and Multan were demolished while six industrial units including steel rerolling mill and steel furnace were sealed. Action was taken against overall sixteen units. Appreciating the performance of Environmental Protection Department teams.
Marriyum Aurganzeb said that the government will continue strict action against the illegal brick kilns besides industrial units, spreading pollution.
