An important meeting was held today in Lahore at the PDMA Committee Room under the chairmanship of Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority Irfan Ali Kathia.
The meeting reviewed the monsoon rains and the flood situation in the rivers. The relief activities in flood-affected areas of Rajanpur were also reviewed during the meeting. The meeting also reviewed the water levels in Indian dams.
During the meeting, various international models were examined to further improve the early warning system.
Preparations for possible flooding in the hill torrents were also reviewed.
Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that there is a risk of flooding in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur until August 31.He directed concerned officers to remain alert.The DG PDMA informed that currently, there is no threat of flooding in the rivers of Punjab.He also reviewed the relief goods stored in warehouses.
He said that PDMA Punjab is ready to handle any emergency situation.He said that as per the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the early warning system will be modernized.
He said that financial assistance is being provided to the families of those who lost their lives due to the monsoon rains this year.
He said that there should be 24/7 contact between rescue services, police, civil administration and other institutions at the district level.He said that there is no room for negligence or irresponsibility.
