Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Huawei Technologies in the Longgang district of Shanghai in China today.
Upon her arrival, she received a warm welcome at Huawei Technologies.
During the visit, it was decided, in collaboration with Huawei, to transform Lahore into Pakistan’s first state-of-the-art smart city.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif invited Huawei to invest in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab and offered support for establishing an office in the Nawaz Sharif IT City.
Huawei assured its full cooperation in setting up an assembly and manufacturing plant in Punjab.
The Chief Minister proposed establishing Huawei retail offices and after-sales service centers across Punjab.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met President of Government Affairs Mr. Wang Chengdong, Huawei’s and discussed various proposals and recommendations for turning Lahore into a modern digital city. She also extended an invitation for him to visit Lahore. The meeting discussed e-commerce, ecosystem production, and the digitization of the health and education sectors.
During the meeting, Mr. Wang Chengdong provided a detailed briefing to the Chief Minister and her delegation, highlighting Huawei’s ongoing projects in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab.
The Chief Minister expressed interest in Huawei’s health and education sector projects and shared information about Punjab’s Safe City Project, emphasizing plans to collaborate with Huawei to realize the vision of a “Digital Punjab.”
She said that Punjab seeks to benefit from Huawei’s expertise in telecommunications, electronics and digitization.
She expressed interest in utilizing Huawei’s professional skills for Punjab’s first fully AI-based university and asked Huawei’s support in capacity building and IT research at Nawaz Sharif IT City.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of introducing Punjab’s youth to the latest advancements in digital technologies with Huawei’s support and requested Huawei’s assistance in developing an ecosystem in Punjab. She acknowledged Huawei’s collaboration in establishing Lahore’s first Safe City Project and toured various departments and facilities of Huawei Technologies, including a factory visit.
