Punjab CM expresses displeasure over delay of Lahore Development Plan

A meeting was held today in Lahore, presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to review progress on the Lahore Development Plan.

During the meeting, the Punjab CM expressed displeasure over delay of Lahore Development Plan. She also expressed  displeasure over the cleanliness situation in  the streets and markets of Lahore and gave a three-day deadline for improvement.

She emphasized that the relevant authorities should take the initiative to repair the city’s roads themselves. She directed that patchwork on major roads be prioritized initially.

She questioned who would be responsible if a vehicle fell into a pothole in the middle of the road and directed that no potholes should be visible on the main roads. She also directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to function and mobilize its road maintenance unit.

The meeting also decided to launch a campaign to remove encroachments from 18 markets in Lahore.

Maryam Nawaz said illegal parking should be eliminated and sidewalks cleared.

She said that the business community would be taken into confidence during the anti-encroachment campaign.

She directed that items placed on sidewalks should be removed and that areas for bikes and carts should be marked.

She directed that space for motorbike parking be allocated in every market.

The meeting was informed that 2,598 cattle from 213 locations in Lahore would be moved outside city limits.

It was also reported that more than 1,800 illegal occupants are settled in tents in slum areas at various locations in Lahore.

The meeting was informed that posters would be removed from walls, poles and pillars.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed officials to hold discussions with farmers and encourage them to voluntarily remove their cattle in the first phase.
