۷Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to launch construction work on the Mansehra-Muzaffarabad Motorway, a major infrastructure project with an estimated cost of Rs. 45 billion.
Initially approved by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2016, the project faced delays after the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government shelved it due to financial constraints. According to MNA Sardar Mohammad Yusuf, the current government has revived it with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.
Sardar Yusuf explained that the project has been approved by a China-Pakistan consortium. He further mentioned that Rs. 45 billion has been allocated for the motorway’s construction, which will eventually extend to other parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in its second phase.
The 27-kilometer-long motorway aims to boost development and prosperity in the region. It is also expected to significantly improve tourism in AJK and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). Sardar Yusuf emphasized that the motorway will substantially cut travel time between the two regions.
The project will include two tunnels spanning 4.3 kilometers and 11 bridges with a combined length of about 3 kilometers, based on surveys conducted by the concerned authorities. These features are designed to enhance connectivity between KP and AJK.
“Our party is committed to development and prosperity through such large-scale projects,” said Sardar Yusuf, highlighting the PML-N’s vision for national growth.
