Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider on Wednesday reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening government-media ties, pledging to address pressing issues, including university harassment, drug abuse, and political polarization.
In a bid to foster greater collaboration and transparency, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider met with media representatives, outlining key initiatives to tackle provincial challenges.
Sardar Saleem Haider met with beat reporters at Governor House, reaffirming his commitment to fostering a strong relationship between the media and the government. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, acknowledging that neither entity can function effectively alone.
Governor Haider expressed his desire to bridge the gap between himself and the media, ensuring better working relations. He assured that Governor House’s doors remain open to individuals with differing opinions, promoting inclusivity and constructive dialogue.
During the meeting, Secretary Information PPP Central Punjab, Shehazad Saeed Cheema, and Secretary Records and Events, Ahsan Rizvi, were also present.
Governor Haider praised the recent Milad event’s massive participation, considering it a positive start for the People’s Party. He stressed the need for collective efforts to improve the country’s situation, cautioning that infighting would harm the nation.
Haider said he will meet with Central Punjab leadership within 15 days to discuss organizational matters and resolve issues in Lahore Urban and Faisalabad divisions.
He has sent letters to universities regarding drugs and harassment, proposing external checking of papers to avoid exploitation and harassment of girl students.
University staff will undergo drug testing and general health checks; those testing positive will face dismissal.
Governor Haider criticized PTI’s actions, advising them to abandon old practices and adopt reasonable approaches.
He expressed willingness to speak with the President regarding the removal of Balochistan journalists’ names from the Fourth Schedule.
Shehazad Saeed Cheema stated that organizational restructuring in Central Punjab is nearly complete, except for Lahore Urban and Faisalabad divisions. Rajah Pervaiz Ashraf will lead the party’s reorganization efforts.
Governor Haider confirmed that former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf will announce the party’s organizational structure for Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad soon. The People’s Party has demonstrated responsible behavior, and Governor Haider pledged to play a bridging role between PPP and PML-N.
