GoPb decides to initiate largest project in history for preservation of the environment, wildlife, and forests

Under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Government has decided to initiate the largest project in the history for the preservation of the environment, wildlife and forests.

In this regard,a meeting was held in Lahore today under the chairmanship of Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.

During the meeting, directions were issued to prepare a plan to make Punjab smog-free and eliminate disposable plastic bags.

During the meeting, approval was granted for forming a plan in collaboration with private sectors to reduce air pollution and improve air quality in Punjab  and Lahore.

The meeting decided on the establishment of an advisory council for the environment, with representation and consultation from private sectors. The council will work on environmental improvement based jointly with representatives from private sectors and concerned stakeholders.

The meeting decided to start a consultation process with relevant stakeholders for the prevention of plastic bags and items causing environmental pollution.

The meeting decided to functionalize and digitize Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA).

Instructions were also given to complete the structure of carbon credits and carbon financing on a fast track.

The meeting decided to amend the Punjab Forest Act as per the needs of current demands.

The meeting granted approval for the first-ever zoological survey in Punjab and to gather complete data on species, numbers, and areas.

The meeting directed for special measures to be taken for the protection of endangered animals and their habitats.

Instructions were issued for special measures for the protection of wetlands in riverine or humid areas for environmental conservation.

The meeting decided on legislative and administrative measures to increase forest area and protect existing forests in Punjab.

The meeting decided to start a special plan to increase fishery and production of fish and prawns.

The meeting decided to establish the first international fish market in Lahore.

The meeting decided on the upgrading of the Wildlife Department with modern standards and technology. The meeting decided to establish Punjab’s first digital wildlife archives. Approval was granted for establishing the first Wildlife Protection Force.

The meeting decided on the implementation of the Plant For Pakistan vision of the Chief Minister. It was decided to include articles related to environmental changes, forests, and wildlife importance in the educational curriculum.

The meeting decided to start primary and secondary degree programs related to environmental changes.

The Secretary of Environment, Secretary of Wildlife, and other senior officials including DG Fisheries participated in the meeting.
