Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman says Saaghir Siddiqui and Perveen Shakir are the assets of Urdu literature.

He expressed this while addressing a launching ceremony of Mah-e-Nau Saaghir Siddiqui and Perveen Shakir editions, organized by Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications (DEMP) at Governor House in Lahore today. 

The launching of book titled “The Great Poet Azerbaijan Nizami Ganjavi” authored by President of Azerbaijan National Academy of Science Dr Issa Bali and translated by Dr Almas Khanam also part of the ceremony.

The Governor said that the prime objective of this ceremony is promotion of Urdu literature and our indigenous poets.

He said that Saaghir Siddiqui and Perveen Shakir had contributed significantly in Urdu poetry and launching ceremony of Mah-e-Nau Saghir Siddiqui and Perveen Shakir editions is to pay the tribute to efforts of these poets.

He also lauded the work of  DEMP for publishing such editions and recognized the literary work of Saghir Siddiqui and Perveen Shakir.

The Governor said that Pakistan and Azerbaijan have fraternal and friendly relations.

GCU Vice Chancellor Asghar Zaidi, famous writer Prof Amjad Tufail, Dr. Saima Iram DG DEMP Imrana Wazir and others literary and social personalities also attended the book launching ceremony

Later, the Governor Punjab presented Mah-e-Nau Saghir Siddiqui and Parveen Shakir editions to Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Khazar Farhadov.

President, Azerbaijan National Academy of Science Dr Issa Bali also presented his book to the Punjab Governor.
