Plantation Drive held in Kinnaird College for Women aimed control smog

The Green Youth Movement (GYM) club of Kinnaird College for Women took an initiative for a plantation drive on campus against smog. For this purpose, sixteen different types of plants including Aloe Vera, Areca Palm, Philodendron, Rubber Plant, Peace Lily, Dracaena, Snake Plant, Boston fern and Yukka Plant were purchased.

All committee members of the GYM club were present at the occasion.

This drive was commenced under the care of Ms. Shanila Bukhari, Convener of GYM club Kinnaird College. Ms. Shanila, along with GYM Club members, Dr. Amber, Ms. Mizna Toosay, Ms. Amna Waheeda, Ms. Sana Akhtar, and Ms. Shumaila Majeed briefed the students about the importance of tree plantation. All the members of the GYM club and volunteers were actively involved in organizing this plantation drive.
Lahore has become the third most polluted city as increasing smog has engulfed Pakistan’s cultural capital. Smog is becoming the fifth season of the city and the bad air quality is the cause of many respiratory illnesses. Apart from the health benefits the planation drive proved to be very aesthetically pleasing as well.
