Civil society protests outside Lahore Press Club

Youth associated with civil society staged a protest from the platform of Civil Society Forum outside Lahore Press Club against inappropriate words against women.

During the protest, civil society members carried various banners, on which were written statements about women’s rights such as a woman is a mother, daughter, wife and sister and their humiliation will not be accepted under any circumstances.

The civil society strongly condemned the offensive words against women and demanded an immediate stop to the hate speeches against women. They claimed women’s participation in politics is being affected with such words also affecting women’s rights. On behalf of the civil society, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the APS tragedy and a special prayer was also offered for the martyrs.

On this occasion, Social worker Gul Maher while addressing the participants said that December 16 is the darkest day in the history of Pakistan when little angels sacrificed their lives and kept the candle of knowledge burning. Now it is the duty of all of us to ensure the end of the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge. The participants included Bushra Khalid, Meham Jabeen and Nadia Butt etc.
