ON THE DIRECTION OF HON’BLE CJ LHC, LHC CONDUCTS HISTORIC PHYSICAL AUDIT OF PENDING CASES IN LHC, DISTRICT JUDICIARY OF PUNJAB

In a revolutionary move, the Lahore High Court, on the directions of the Hon’ble Chief Justice Miss Aalia Neelum, has conducted physical audit of pending cases in the Lahore High Court and District Courts across the Punjab. This historic initiative marks the first time that a comprehensive physical audit of pending cases has been carried out in the Lahore High Court’s history.

The interim report of physical audit has revealed that over 1 million cases are pending in the Lahore High Court, with 65,975 cases pending at the principal seat. The breakdown of pending cases at the principal seat includes 11,836 civil cases, 25,312 criminal cases, 26,175 writ petitions, and 2,652 commercial and tax cases. Additionally, other benches of Lahore High Court including Bahawalpur, Multan and Rawalpindi have pendency of 9,703, 22,675, and 5,343 cases, respectively.

Similarly, District Courts across Punjab have over 1.4 million pending cases, including 1.19 million civil cases and 217,000 session cases. These numbers highlight the need for effective measures to reduce the backlog of cases and ensure timely justice for all litigants.

In the up-coming meeting of Administration Committee, headed by the Hon’ble Chief Justice Miss Aalia Neelum, a comprehensive plan will be discussed and finalized for expeditious disposal of above noted pending cases. The plan will focus on implementing effective measures to reduce the backlog of cases and ensure timely justice for all litigants.
