Hon’ble Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Lahore, Justice Miss Aalia Neelum chairs a Full Court Meeting, which was held at the Judges’ New Library.

The meeting was graced by the Hon’ble Judges of Lahore High Court, Lahore, including Mr. Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, Mr. Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, Mr. Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan, Mr. Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Mr. Justice Faisal Zaman Khan, while LHC Registrar Abher Gul Khan was also present.

The meeting focused on to establish mechanism for expeditious disposal of pending cases in the Lahore High Court, Lahore Principal Seat, and benches at Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi, as well as the district judiciary across the province of Punjab. Several proposals were put forth to expedite the disposal of old cases, and to formulate a comprehensive policy to reduce the backlog of cases and to ensure swift and quality justice. The aim is to provide citizens with timely and effective justice, thereby strengthening the public’s trust in the judiciary.

A detailed report was also presented during the meeting. As per the figures of the said report, over 3.8 million cases were decided in the Lahore High Court and the district judiciary across Punjab during the year 2024. The report further revealed that 148,453 new cases were filed in the Lahore High Court’s Principal seat and the benches during 2024, while 144,122 cases were decided by the Lahore High Court during the same period. Similarly, during the year 2024, the district judiciary decided 36,570,102 cases and 37,896,639 new cases were filed in 2024. The Lahore High Court and its benches currently have 198,000 pending cases, while the district judiciary has 1,494,868 pending cases.
