
Islamabad: OGDCL (Oil and Gas Development Company Limited) has announced on Tuesday the discovery of large reserves from Chak 214-1 exploratory well located in Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab province.
OGDCL is the sole operator of Mari East Block with 100% stake in it.
OGDCL experts used their expertise to drill Chuck 214-1 well to a depth of 1851 meters on June 29, 2023. Based on the results of wireline logs, a well of 230 pounds per square inch was found through drill stem test 1 in Dongan Formation. 1.1 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) at a headflowing pressure of 32/64 choke size and at a wellhead flowing pressure of 230 pounds per square inch by drill stem test 2 in the Swimman Limestone (SML). 1.31 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) gas production at 32/64 choke size has been commercialized.
This new gas discovery is the first of its kind in the Mari East block and reflects OGDCL’s unwavering commitment to exploit the block’s hydrocarbon potential and pursue an aggressive exploration strategy. The discovery will play a significant role in bridging the gap in energy demand and supply through indigenous resources.
This discovery will strengthen the hydrocarbon reserves of OGDCL and Pakistan and also increase the country’s energy security. The company will continue to play its responsible role in the exploration of oil and gas and the development of Pakistan’s energy sector.
