MIRPUR (AJK) : The ongoing nation-wide 5-day polio eradication campaign successfully continued on 3rd consecutive day across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) including the lake district of Mirpur on Wednesday.
In the liberated territory, 7, 42, 500 children up to five years of age were targeted to be administered anti-polio vaccine and vitamin ‘A’ drops during the campaign, the State Health Services authorities said.
The campaign was launched by the State Health Services Department with the coordination of the World Health Organization (WHO), the sources told APP here while unveiling the salient features of the ongoing immunization campaign against polio.
No case of polio disease had been reported in AJK since last 24 years, they added.
Highlighting salient features of the campaign, the AJK State Health authorities continued that only in AJK’s metropolis – Muzaffarabad, over 1.30 lakh children up to five years of were targeted to be administered the Polio vaccines and vitamin ‘A’ drops during the drive.
At least 3995 mobile teams of para medical staff had been constituted to visit door to door to administer the polio vaccine drops during the campaign across AJK – where a total of 448 fixed centers at local government’s hospitals and subordinate health facilities, had been established by the State Polio Eradication Committee of the AJK State Health Services Department with the coordination of the World Health Organization (WHO), the sources revealed.
A total of 169 transit points had also been set upset up for conducting the drive drive under the supervision of the concerned area in charges, the sources said.
A central polio control room had been set up in the office of the Provincial Program Manager EPI in AJK State’s metropolis Muzaffarabad to monitor the drive, according to the sources .
